Pickle says….I am a very lucky little boy. I live in a lovely house with my family, I have everything I could possibly want, including more than enough food to eat. It is hard for me to imagine people in my country not having enough to eat today. Unfortunately, there are. In my county – in my local towns and villages. This winter, we want to do a little bit to help them, with our reverse advent calendar. What is a reverse advent calendar, I can hear you asking? ….
A reverse advent calendar is where every day, for 25 days (or a month), instead of having a chocolate, or small gift for Advent, we are going to give something to our local food bank. We are going to pop it all in a box, and take it to them before Christmas.
Now, because the food bank will need the food by early December so they can get it to families for Christmas, we are going to do our reverse advent calendar throughout November.
Food banks are always so happy to receive donations, so if you decide to do your reverse advent calendar through the traditional period of December, your box will make a lovely parcel for someone in January.
Of course, you can do it at any other time of the year too.
This is what we have found out so far:
You can find your local Food Bank here.
Check with your local bank which foods they have enough of, and which they are in urgent need of. This may be listed on the website.
Find out exactly where you should take your donation.
We are going to give (after checking with our local food bank):
I also would like to give some chocolate seeing as it is Christmas.
Mummy read about this fantastic idea on the Thinking Thrifty and UK Money Bloggers blogs.
Have you heard of this before? Do you think it is something you could join in with?

This is a really lovely idea. Whenever I buy something that is on a BOGOF or 3 for 2, the extras go in the food bank box x

I was wondering what a reverse advent calendar was, what a fantastic idea, if everyone gave just one thing it would really help people who need it, so 25 things will be fantastic to someone in need xxx

That is such a lovely idea. I need to try and donate to the local food bank more. We like to try and gift toys at Christmas where possible.

I’d never heard of a Reverse Advent Calendar before, but I absolutely love the idea of giving something to a food bank each day instead of eating chocolate! I might have to do this for this year! <3
