There is no greater gift than having a baby, but it is a full-time job with no payment! Stay-at-home mums often find themselves in a position where they need extra money but cannot afford childcare or just do not want to leave their children. My Mummy found herself in this exact situation.
She found that the best chance of extra income for her was to look for computer and online work that she can do while taking care of me at home. A lot of job offers are available on job search engines like this one which has career opportunities posted by companies and recruitment agencies. She is even able to work when we are on holiday – as the photo shows!
Here are some online job ideas for a stay at home mum:
Freelance writer
There has never been as much written information as there is today with the internet and the millions of businesses and resources online.
Freelance writing for companies online is an excellent way to earn extra money. People or companies looking for an article for their blog or website will create a task that freelance writers can apply for. When you complete the project, you recieve payment. A new writer starting off may not be paid highly but over time, the income will grow and can become substantial.
Call Centre Agents
Many call centres hire remote agents to answer and make cold calls, depending on their requirements. All you need as an agent is a reliable internet connection, a headset and a friendly attitude while dealing with clients. Call centre jobs are usually paid by the hour and the hours are logged with software provided by the company.
Blogger
Mummy’s main source of income is our blog. She has built it up over the last two and a half years, and as well as working for many national brands reviewing products and services, she is now paid to write for companies too. Keep at it, if this is a goal of yours. It doesn’t happen overnight.
Translation Work
If you know a second language, then translation work can be ideal for you. With the internet providing ways for businesses to branch out into unexplored countries, there is a massive need for accurate translations. As a translator, you will be given the source document or audio file and then be required to translate it to the chosen language while keeping the meaning identical to the original.
There are lots of other job ideas for a Stay-at-Home Mum out there too including filling out surveys, watching videos and more.
There has never been a better time to be a stay-at-home mum and still be a part of the working world. You can even begin your online career today by exploring these options and more, and apply to various online businesses that can offer you a reliable source of income.

I am hoping that over the course of the next three months I can work from home and be able to afford to live off writing alone. Is there any freelance writing companies that you would suggest me contacting?

This is exactly what I did when I had my first daughter – I started writing on a freelance basis and then I started a blog and it developed from there!

I can imagine that these are good ideas for stay at home mums 🙂 I don’t have kids, and I don’t think I’d become a stay at home mum if I did, but I probably would do freelance programming and sell my own products.
