Family Home Improvement Ideas

Pickle says….. ‘Our family home is the space in which us children will remember our childhood. It’s the place where we spend most of our time and it will be the background of our photographs for years to come. We want it to look and feel homely, but also be a practicable and safe environment for us.

Here are some home improvement ideas you can use for inspiration to revamp your house. They are family-friendly ideas that everyone can try.

Family Home Improvement Ideas

Fake grass

Installing artificial grass is a great way to transform your garden. The fake grass looks fresh, green and requires absolutely no maintenance. That means no watering, no fertilising and you can even get rid of your lawn mower. Think of all that extra free time you will have on your hands!

It’s also really great for us children and much safer that natural lawn. Synthetic turf has a soft texture, making it perfect for children to play. It’s a squishy and spongy landing bed for us little ones to fall on meaning less scrapes and bruises. You don’t have to worry about the germs we could pick up from dirt because artificial grass doesn’t have any mud. Cats and dogs can’t dig in it either!

Decking

Fitting wooden decking would be a great way to make our home feel more spacious. It’s the perfect flooring to have a table and chairs on, meaning we can sit outside to eat and we wouldn’t have to worry about mess or crumbs on the carpet!

We could move meal times from inside to outside meaning; BBQ’s, afternoon tea, lunches and even breakfast whilst watching the sunrise. We would have to take care of our decking correctly and it would be a great space for our family.

Create storage

Mummy is the Queen of Clutter (sorry Mummy!) We all know how it feels to be tripping over shoes and squeezing past clutter in the hallway (Mummy says and YOUR toys Pickle!)  It is difficult to find places to store these, and having them out can be tripping hazards for your children. Well, why not create storage?

Mummy could build a large DIY storage creation with some wood, a toolbox and drill, or we could  just create some cute boxes out of household items, there are storage ideas for every home.

Under the stairs is a space of our house that is wasted, we could turn this into storage by building shelves or draws underneath.

Add some colour

Adding some lively colour into our home by creating feature walls is a great idea. A feature wall is a wall that is decorated differently to the others. It could be with paint or wallpaper. It would be best to decorate the whole wall from floor to ceiling as it would make the room look larger.

Only decorating one wall means that we could be really bold and pick a bright colour or really snazzy wallpaper with a dramatic pattern.  Having a bright home will help lift the mood of all our family. A happier home is a much more enjoyable place to be.

Update your lighting

By updating the lighting in our house, it would make it look and feel much more spacious and brighter. Having plenty of lovely lamps placed around our house would really brighten the rooms up.

Choosing the perfect lighting for our kitchen is very important because it is one of the most important rooms in our home where our family usually spends a lot of time together. We want it to feel spacious and light but also have to be comfortable and relaxing.. There are lots of different types of lighting such as wall lighting, track lighting and under-cabinet lighting. Try a mixture of them all for the best results.

Another good idea for improving your home is changing the heating system. One of the best solutions for you is having , which will be a good detail for your design, also.

Now you can make your home the perfect place to spend time and enjoy being with your loved ones, as well as making it a more child-friendly and safe environment.

  11. I love the fact that when you have a fake grass lawn you don’t have to do all of that mowing, watering, and weeding. I would rather spend that time with my family. Your list is pretty solid, so I wouldn’t add anything.
