Bitter Sweet Half Term

Bitter Sweet Half Term

Mummy says… It has been a while since I have written a post about what we’ve been up to, but we have had such a bitter sweet half term I wanted to share it with you …

Bitter Sweet Half Term

We had a brilliant start to the week -the weather was glorious – bright, sunny and really warm. We travelled to Bristol on the Saturday to visit Mimi, my eldest daughter who lives there. After lunch and a walk around the shops we sat outside and had a cocktail! In the sunshine!

We left Mimi and headed towards London, staying over at Chievely before spending the day at Osterley House and Park, a stunning National Trust property. It was another hot – yes hot, sunny day!

At tea time we made our way to Harlow where we were staying for two nights. On Monday I drove to another National Trust property – the Wimpole Estate. It was absolutely packed! AND hot and sunny again! We felt very blessed, happy and enjoying just being together.

I am writing full reviews on both properties soon.

We made our way home on Tuesday, arriving late afternoon. Lea, who is in Uni in London came home with us for a few days which was lovely.  Our two cats, Luna and Nala were being looked after by family. Luna hadn’t been well before we went away, but I had popped her to the vets and they couldn’t find anything wrong with her. I thought she was in shock after a fright.

As soon as we saw Luna we knew something was very wrong. We rushed her to the vet, where no-one was able to see her.

(These photos are from when we first had the kittens to a few months ago).

We took her home and I didn’t think she would make the night. She did, just, and we took her back to the vets on Wednesday morning. The vet said she was very very poorly, severely dehydrated and her body temperature was cold. She arranged blood tests at our nearest vet and they revealed that Luna had acute kidney failure.

She died at 1.45pm on Wednesday 27 February.

The vet believes she was poisoned. We will never prove if it was deliberate, but last year our neighbours cat was poisoned and died the same way.

I will be writing a post soon about the symptoms and what to look for if your cat is poorly.

We did go ahead with a birthday celebration with friends for Pickle’s friends birthday on the Wednesday afternoon, as I asked Pickle is he still wanted to go. It took our minds off Luna for a couple of hours. We also went to another National Trust place on Thursday with my parents, as we had arranged it the previous week. We managed to have a lovely day, avoiding thinking about Luna who was being kept at the vets until my nephew could dig a hole in the garden for her.

We buried her in the garden on Saturday morning, in the same area that we have our other four cats buried.

So, little Nala is now our only cat. She is lost without her sister and readjusting to being alone.

Luna was only eighteen months old, and was a beautiful, strong, healthy cat. We miss her terribly but were so happy to have had her.

Half term ended with our friends proper birthday party yesterday (Sunday) and it was good to meet up with my mum friends.

How was your half term?

  1. Aww I’m so sorry. It’s awful when let’s die anyway but to think she was poisoned:( I’m so sorry

  2. I’m so sorry to read about Luna. That’s so sad. Why would anyone do such a thing. It was lovely to read that you made some happy memories though and I’ll look forward to reading about the NT properties you have visited

  5. Oh good god why I am suspecting that someone around the neighbourhood is doing this deliberately. So sorry for your loss.
