How to Create a Relaxing Bedroom Space

Mummy says…As we enter into the colder months and the days get shorter and darker, there is no place most of us would rather be than tucked up in bed. This space should be as calming and relaxing as it possibly can so that you can get a good night’s sleep, be energised and refreshed to take on the following day. If you are looking for ideas for how to transform your bedroom this winter and create a relaxing bedroom space, we have some great tips for you…

How to Create a Relaxing Bedroom Space

Remove Any Clutter
Before you do anything else, we would suggest getting rid of all clutter that is lying around your bedroom. Clutter is a main reason why many people do not get a good nights sleep and it can cause anxiety, which is exactly the opposite of the relaxing space that you are trying to create! Start with your bedside table and remove all clutter from here and your dresser. If you tend to use your bed, floor or bedroom chair as a dumping ground for your clothes, make sure that these are neatly put away and are hanging up behind closed doors.

Make Your Bed
This may seem a little trivial, but it is the little things that can really make a difference when you are
trying to create a more relaxing bedroom space. While most of us tend to be in a rush in the mornings trying to get to work, it really is worth your time to spend a few extra minutes making your bed.

Create the Perfect Bed
Whilst it is important to make your bed in the mornings, it is important to have good quality bedding
if you want to have a great night’s sleep. If your mattress is old and tired, consider buying a new one
– this is an investment that you definitely will not regret. We would also recommend choosing new bed sheets with a higher thread content, as the higher the thread content is, the softer your sheets will be. You should also look at replacing your old pillows with new ones that are more supportive.

Choose the Right Bedding
When choosing new bedding for over the winter period you will want to choose a neutral colour that
is also warm, cosy and inviting. As the advice on this article recommends, during the winter months,
a darker neutral colour is perfect, although you can add in a pop of colour too. Adding in some cosy
throws over your bed will also help to create a relaxing environment that you can’t wait to get into
in the evenings.

Add a Rug
When you are getting up early during those cold winter mornings, there is nothing worse than a cold
floor hitting your feet. This is especially true if you have wooden flooring in your bedroom! Adding a
soft rug next to your bed is the perfect way to combat this problem and will also add a touch of
luxury to your room to make it feel more relaxing.

Organise Your Bedside Table
Once you have removed all of the clutter from your bedside table, it is a good idea to organise it to fit in with the relaxing theme of your room. Freshly cut flowers are a great option and having a
candle with a relaxing scent is perfect for those cold winter evenings. This is also the spot where you
will want to keep your glasses if you have them and a book.

Have a Basket
So, where are you going to place all of this clutter that has been moved from your bedside table?
Well, this is where a basket comes in handy. Keep a basket next to your bed where you can throw in
things like remote controls, tablet and even phones. Having these devices switched off and away
from your bed will help to create the relaxing environment you need in your bedroom space to avoid

Keep Windows Unobstructed
As the days become much darker during the winter months, it is important that you try to let in as
much natural light as you possibly can, which means keeping your windows unobstructed. This will
allow you to let in lots of natural light, whilst still also being able to pull across your shades so that
you can enjoy a great sleep.
