Pickle says… I have never been to the races – Mummy went to Cheltenham last year and really enjoyed it, so when we were invited by Great British Racing to go to family fun race day at our local racecourse, Ffos Las, we were very excited to go along…
There are more than 200 exciting events taking place at racecourses around the country over the summer holidays with under 18s going free to most of them. They are brilliant affordable days out for the whole family.
At Ffos Las there was loads of activities to keep me (and the teens) entertained, including rodeo horse, a golf driving competition, basketball shootout, bouncy castle, inflatable slide, face painters and much more. The mascot Ffossy was also there, and the activities were all free!
We had a day of beautiful warm sunshine, and a table for the day in Bridles Restaurant. A delicious summer carvery and desert were served, and Mummy had coffee too. I had a fab activity bag and toy horse to take home.
We had never been to Ffos Las before and were very impressed with the facilities, enjoying a behind the scenes tour too, including the weight room where I was weighed and we saw a real jockey! We are huge animal lovers and were pleased to see and hear about the safeguards and facilities the racecourse has, to help prevent any injuries and deal with them as quickly and safely as possible if there is an accident – that goes for both the jockey and the horse.
We enjoyed watching some races from the balcony and had an awesome view. It was very exciting but we didn’t win anything!
We really enjoyed our family fun day at the races and are looking forward to going back again soon.
There are still lots of events to look forward to – here is a list:
In celebration of the Under 18’s Race Free initiative, comedian David Walliams and The Crown actor Billy Jenkins have co-starred as father and son in a series of sketches. Go to under18sracefree.com to watch the Horsing Around videos and find your local family raceday.
