Staying in Bath with Hiplets

Staying in Bath with Hiplets

Pickle says…We were very lucky to have been staying in Bath with Hiplets over half term. We have visited Bath a couple of times before and loved it. It is such a beautiful place. This time we stayed right in the centre…

Staying in Bath with Hiplets

We stayed in Monmouth House, a gorgeous Georgian house on Monmouth Street, a few minutes easy walk from the centre of Bath where the Abbey, Roman Baths and shops are.

It is in an absolutely brilliant position. We parked in Charlotte Street Long Stay car park, which costs £8.50 for 24 hours and is about a ten minute (or less) walk away. You can pull up opposite the house briefly to unload / load your car.

The house is modern, light and airy with real quality fittings and furnishings. The only darker room was the bedroom downstairs.

There were six of us staying, Mummy, teens aged 18 and 15, Nan and Grandad and me! I am 5. big sis and boyfriend Mimi and Lewis (2 adults) joined us too for part of our stay.

The house sleeps 11 but 6 of those beds are bunk beds.

The house layout is: Floor Two – One double bedroom, one bathroom with bath, shower and loo.

Floor one – One main bedroom with double and single bed. One bedroom with bunk beds.

Ground Floor – Large living / kitchen area. Front door opens straight into this space from the street.

Lower Ground Floor – Bedroom with two sets of bunk beds, bathroom with shower and loo.

We had a couple of issues with the house, we would recommend it for older children, as there are fairly steep curved staircases to each level. I did slip twice (No real biggie, I was ok, but they were steep for me).

We understand the house is rented to a lot of single adults, which it is perfect for. For a family, however, it would benefit from a comfy lounge area with sofas. The only seating was in the dining room area, which was a little uncomfortable after a while.

Renting Monmouth House would have cost us £250 per night for the entire property. This rises to £265 per night in the summer months, which is incredible value for money if you are a large group / family.

  3. It certainly seems like a very nice place to say although like you say maybe not entirely child friendly with that staircase! I would love to visit Bath and will bear in mind hiplets for accommodation.

    • Hi Laura,

Monmouth House is so centrally located, many of our guests stay there for convenient access to events, restaurants, spa, shops – there is hardly time to staying “home” and indoors! However, should you wish to spend time socialising with friends and family, we have alternative accommodation options for this – please have a look at our other properties. 🙂

  8. That sounds like a good place to rent for larger parties as you’ve said. My sisters and I go away once a year and I may suggest Bath for our trip next year now I know we could get somewhere central for all of us.

Yes, we are so blessed to be based in Bath. Unfortunately a minor drawback of numerous older properties in the UK are the steep staircases… but we do have alternative accommodation options – have a look! 🙂

  15. It looks like such a beautiful property but the steep stairs would be a huge issue for me personally as my knees give out on normal stairs at the best of times, it does sound like a great place though for a group thing or a couple going away as it seems really nice and grand.
