So, we have said goodbye to this years summer, and many of you will already looking for the perfect family holiday for 2017. Well, look no further as we have the solution for you!
Ok, so if you are like us, you have a checklist of what would make the perfect family holiday, including certain things that are virtually essential. The one place that ticks everything on our checklist – and more, and has done for the last ten years is Menorca. We will be shortly visiting for the fifth time and can’t wait. This will be my third holiday there, and I have already fallen in love with the island. The whole island takes just an hour or so to drive from end to end, and has the most beautiful beaches, scenery, villages, cities and incredible history. It literally has something for everyone – and is only about a two hour flight from the UK.
It is still a quieter island, and has lots of laws to prevent building in certain areas, as well as lots of preservation sites too.
Last year, we were lucky enough to discover the totally awesome Royal Son Bou Family Club in Son Bou. It is family friendly 4* aparthotel with 252 beautiful apartments, and you can stay either all inclusive or half board. It is situated literally just off the beach, which is accessed via a tunnel which goes under the road. I loved this – and how cool that it keeps us all safe from trying to cross the road.
So, why is this hotel so good for families?
The staff LOVE children and there are fantastic Kids Clubs for all ages – and even Magikland – a supervised creche right next to the restaurant for tots aged 0-4 years, where I can play whilst Mummy has dinner. There are dozens and dozens of activities for everyone too.
There is a separate kids pool with a cool pirate ship. It is nice and shallow for children, and has La Basilica Restaurant next to it – if you do go all inclusive you can get your drinks and ice cream here.
The restaurants have plastic children’s cutlery and highchairs as well as a children’s buffet where I can help myself as the counter is lower just for me! Los Olivos has Mexican, Spanish, Minorcan and Chinese themed nights too. One thing we all found was that the food is never ever boring- there are different dishes every lunch time and night, so we always had so much to choose from.
Son Bou has a wide, safe family friendly beach and a centre of some shops and cafes and restaurants and a couple of car hire centres as well as some supermarkets. It is a very popular resort, sitting approximately a 35 minute drive away from Mahon airport, and the beautiful city of Mahon.
There is a regular bus service to Mahon and Ciutadella or you can hire a car in the resort to explore the island.
The Royal Son Bou Family Club has a great app you can download which tells you all about What’s On at the hotel, a weather forecast, a map of Son Bou, the local bus timetable, as well as walking and hiking routes, local market info and much more. It an absolute gem of an app, which will make planning your holiday easy and fun.
Or
Or search Royal Son Bou in the app stores.

Sounds like the ideal base for a family holiday! And who doesn’t love being just off the beach…but safe to get there. Like all the child-friendly touches too!
Thanks for sharing!

This looks great for young children, so many hotels tend to forget about their meal requirements ! The kids club looks great as well.

This sounds perfect for a family with you children. I would recommend a trip to Zell am See in Austria, loads of find things to do there in the summer and beautiful surroundings. I love EuroCamp in Bruck just outside Zell am See.
