A perfect base in London

Mummy says…’I was lucky enough to visit London a couple of weeks ago for the BritMums blog conference, but even better, I was spending the weekend with my partner in (blogging) crime, Zena. We stayed at a beautiful apartment, which really was a perfect base in London.

A perfect base in London

I have stayed in many hotels, and love it, but never stayed in an apartment in this country. The lovely people at FG Properties offered me this amazing apartment, and of course I agreed, and promptly asked Zena if she would like to join me. With no hesitation, and much to my delight, she said she would love to! Cue a packed weekend of fun, laughter, catching up, sharing tips, Prosseco and blogging too. The perfect weekend, right?

The apartment was in West Kensington – roughly a 30 minutes easy tube ride from Paddington, where I always arrive when I visit London. The nearest stop is Barons Court. Zena and I arrived, and eagerly set off to find our weekend home. We stepped out of the tube station, and after much peering at Google Maps on Zena’s phone, we turned left. We walked. And walked. And walked. We walked for, I swear, getting on for an hour before we eventually found it. TOP TIP – turn RIGHT out of the tube station exit, then immediately right again…..walk down the road and on your right is the apartment! Aarrgghhhh! We laughed and laughed…..a little while later 😉

Our apartment was totally worth the walking, it was compact – or bijoux as we liked to call it, and had everything we needed. It slept six – which, I think would be a bit of a squash, there are two double bedrooms and the settee makes into a bed in the kitchen / living / dining room. The kitchen area was well equipped, but was a small area, saying that it was more than adequate. With a fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and washing machine (in a large cupboard off the hall) you could easily cater for everyone. Off the main living space was a Juliet balcony which provided a beautiful view onto the street.

My bed was literally heavenly. Made up with fresh linen, it was super comfortable and I had the best nights sleep!

The bathroom was modern, with an over-the-bath shower, complimentary toiletries, plenty of loo rolls and towels – although only one towel each is provided. There was a bit of a smell, due to no windows, an air freshener would make a difference.

A perfect base in London

This apartment is well thought out, well designed and in a fantastic location. Sitting on a quiet tree lined street, we couldn’t believe we were in London!

The apartment was super clean and well equipped – the only thing I would have liked was a litter bin in the bedroom and bathroom.

If you are visiting London, you really should pop over to FG Properties – they also have apartments in various countries in Europe which are well worth looking at. They are great for families as many sleep 6 or more, which is fantastic value for money for staying in the city.

Entry to the building is via a keypad which worked well for our apartment, but the main front door was open (unlocked) for the duration of our stay. To be fair, I didn’t raise it with FG Properties simply because we were on the go the whole weekend and I didn’t get chance.

If you don’t fancy cooking breakfast, I recommend the cafe at the tube entrance which serves perfect crispy bacon butties and cappuccinos!

Don’t you agree that this is a perfect base in London? Have you stayed in an apartment in a city before?

We were guests of FG Properties in exchange for an honest review.

  1. It looks like a fab place to stay. I need to look into apartments as we can never find a room big enough for us all

  2. Oh thats a nice area of London. 🙂 Looks like a nice place to stay if visiting london. Much nicer to stay somewhere like that than in a busy hotel in the main areas of the noisy city. Ive stayed with friends in central london and wow.. its very noisy.

  3. What a lovely bijou apartment you had. So much more homely than a hotel.

  4. Wow this looks beautiful, I’ve never thought of staying in an apartment before. As a family of 6 we always rule out staying in London because it’s too expensive to stay in hotels as the rooms aren’t big enough for all of us and it double’s the cost to have two rooms. Great review and lovely pics x

  5. I read Zena’s post and remember making a mental note about the place. We’re visiting London in the summer, we usually take the train back to my in-laws, but I think this time I’d like to stay over night and this one looks like it foots the bill 🙂
