Mummy visited the Canary Islands during a cruise before I was born, stopping at Tenerife and Grand Canaria, but not Lanzarote. Mummy would love to go there, and take me (I wasn’t born then!) As we are exploring this for a holiday, we share 5 reasons to visit Lanzarote.
Lanzarote is by far one of the most popular destinations for families and couples alike. There are many reasons why this is, here are our top 5 reasons to visit Lanzarote:
The weather is great all year round.
Lanzarote and the Canary Islands in general, are known for great sunny, warm weather all year round. That’s what makes them such a great destination for holidaymakers. Lanzarote is also known as the windy island. But this can be a huge plus point for visiting the island, it means there is a nice breeze making the heat more bearable. It can be an excellent choice for young families to experience Summer or Winter sun.
It’s not too expensive.
Getting there can be quite reasonable these days. Especially if you can travel outside of school holidays. But even if you don’t have this option, the island offers excellent value for money. You can obtain cheap holidays to Lanzarote quite easily over the internet. As well as saving money on the holiday itself, food and drink are excellent value in the resort centres and villages which means a well earned holiday isn’t going to cost you the earth.
It’s not too far away.
Sometimes we want to be able to get away without travelling for hours and hours. Long haul travel isn’t for everyone, especially with young children. With flights from Manchester most days and it only being around a four-hour plane journey, it’s easy to see why people visit Lanzarote year after year.
There’s plenty to do.
There are so many great places to visit on the island, you will find it difficult to get bored!. You could visit the volcanic region of Timanfaya or take a look at the albino crabs. You could hunt out surfers beaches at Morro Negro or wander round the famous market in Teguise. Plus you still have the beaches and resorts to explore as well.
There are great places to stay.
Of course, heading to Lanzarote means you have lots of hotel complexes to choose from. These can cater for all-inclusive adults only to family orientated hotels. If that isn’t your thing then there are some boutique hotels to hunt out or, if like us you are a larger family you could also consider a self-catering option and rent a villa. This is probably what we would do.
So Lanzarote looks like a fab place for a great holiday with lots of sunshine at a great price! We hope to be visiting very soon. Have you ever been?

I’d love to visit Lanzarote one day. It looks and sounds like a beautiful place! I also like the fact it isn’t too far away because quite frankly I don’t think I’d deal with traveling for hours upon hours very well! I’d love to visit the market in Teguise, I LOVE markets 😀 xx

I’ve visited Lanzarote a few times. Great place to top up on a dose of sunshine & there’s some nice ‘hidden gems’ of places that aren’t too touristy.

I have visited Lanzarote quiet a few times and I like it the best out of all the canary islands ( I have been to all 4) we always visited the canary islands as teenagers as my mum loved that it was warm all year around so we visited every Easter and September. I have been thinking of taking my own children someday as we want to holiday out of season so it is not too busy xx

We went to Lanzarote last year and had a wonderful time. It was a bit windy though! We’re heading to Fuerteventura this year to try it out there!

We used to go every February for a week of sunshine, great place, my friend even retired there! Windy good for surfing near Costa Teguise, calm no wind near Playa Blanca, night life near Peurto del Carmen. Something for everyone.
