A Special FREE Mother’s Day Gift

It is Mother’s Day on Sunday. Children all over the country are trying to make, bake or buy gifts to show their Mummy how much they love her. Some children – like us – have a little problem, because Mummy and Daddy are not together, Daddy doesn’t have to help us buy anything for her. So, we have no money, no way of getting any money, but we want to treat Mummy and show her how we love her to bits.

a special free mother's day gift

My big bro and sisters make cards, and help me too, and we have lots of craft bits at the moment to use. But we do want to get her a gift too. What can we do? We can give Mummy a FREE Mother’s Day Gift – a coupon jar. My brother and sisters made one for Mummy years ago, before I was born, and I would like them to help me make one this year. They had no money to buy anything to decorate the jar – but Mummy says it is one of the best gifts she has ever had.

It is the easiest thing in the world to do, it is completely free, and it will mean the world to Mummy.

All you need is an empty jar – the others used a coffee jar, because they liked the shape of it – but any one will do.

Cut a piece of paper into strips and write your promise on it.

Cut a piece of coloured paper into strips – they chose yellow – to make special Golden Coupons for Mummy to choose any coupon she would like.

a special free mother's day gift

You can decorate your jar any way you like – or leave it plain and just write on it.

Some ideas for your coupons could be:

*Iron some clothes

*Tidy one room

*Run a bubble bath

*Give Mummy an hour to herself

You can offer to walk the dog, feed the cat, clean out the rubbish from the car – whatever it is that your Mummy does and you can do for her instead.

So, there is our idea for a special FREE Mother’s Day gift that anyone can make – do you like it?

  6. This is such a lovely idea. It’s a bit of a cliche these days to say it’s the thought that counts but it’s really true, especially when it’s from your child.

  7. I love the idea of a coupon jar! whenever I make things like this for my dad I have to put terms and conditions on them because the sneaky devil tries to re-use them all the time :p (the amount of shopping I have done for him is ridiculous – we are about 5 years in!)

  8. PERFECT!

My son is far too young, but when kids do get older and can be difficult for dad to not get involved in the purchase of a gift. I would much rather prefer this when my son is at the right age.

  34. This is a great idea and I can totally relate as i was a single mother for 5 years and my daughter couldn’t exactly go with dad to get me a gift etc. I think you raise an important issue which some people take for granted and that is that not all kids are in two parent families. The coupons are fab and a great budget friendly gift! Angela from Daysinbed
