Folly Farm and Zoo

You may know that Folly Farm and Zoo is one of my most favourite places EVER! I have already been lots of times, since I was 2 weeks old!

We were very excited then, to be invited along to officially review the park. We chose last Monday – Bank Holiday Easter Monday to go, because it was going to be a lovely warm, sunny day, and it can be a bit windy there.

The weather was perfect! It was like a mid-summers day. Clear blue sky, SO warm and sunny. We chose the right day. As, so it seems, did the rest of South Wales! In all the times we have visited, we have NEVER seen it so busy!

The queues moved quite quickly, and we were in! We arrived at about 11am.

I headed straight to the outdoor play area. There are quite a few of these, and they are amazing. Big, bright, with lots of different things to do on each one. Mummy and Nana headed for the coffee shop.

Even though it was so busy, there was plenty of room for everyone. You can see how excited and happy I was!

We sometimes buy food there, and sometimes we take a picnic. This time, we took a picnic because we knew it was going to be such a lovely day. This Coffee Shop, near the entrance, sells bacon rolls, paninis, childrens sandwich meals, cakes and drinks.

We had a snack while Mummy and Nana finished their coffee, then we headed off to see the animals – my favourite part!

As well as the big guys – lions, giraffes and zebra – there are loads of other ones including Tapir, Lemur, and one of my personal favourites, Camels!

I like the Meerkats too!

Penguin Coast is a fab place where the penguins live. you can watch them above the water, and go down to the under water viewing windows. They are great!

The giraffes share their space with the zebras, and there is a high viewing platform to get a better look.

As you can see, even though it was jam-packed, I could still easily see all the animals. There are so many more animals that we didn’t have time to see – The Jolly Barn has sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, and across the road you can get the landtrain to see pigs and different breeds of sheep.

We went inside so I could play in there, and we all had a drink. There is a snack bar serving drinks, baguette meals, hot dogs and cakes. The queue was HUGE! It took Mummy and Nana twenty minutes to be served!

This huge indoor part of Folly Farm has been extended again, to give lots of seating – perfect for when it’s rainy. And it rains here, a lot! There looks like there is another snack bar being built too, but it wasn’t finished.

In the main part – Carousel Woods, where there is a massive indoor play area, it was packed. This leads through to the Indoor Fair, which has amazing old fashioned vintage fairground rides, but we didn’t go to that part today, we didn’t have time!

Folly Farm and Zoo are working on a big outdoor seating area, and getting ready for Flamingos arriving.

There are also Rhinos arriving this summer too! How exciting!

I wanted to play some more…

We left after 5pm, there was so much we just didn’t have time to see or do.  We would have had some more time if the queues for drinks were shorter. I did manage a quick ice lolly though!

Admission to Folly Farm and Zoo is only £10.95 for adults, and £9.95 for children and senior people. 2 and unders are free (Yay!)  You can use your Tesco Clubcard Vouchers to pay to get in.

There are seasonal passes too, but you can’t use vouchers for those.

You can get your ticket stamped, and go back within seven days for half price. Trust me, you will probably need to!

It is SUCH good value. There are some things that you pay extra for – Go Karts and CAT Diggers are extra, and fairground rides are 50p – £1 a ride. The Big Wheel is 50p each too. (One token, which you buy there).

There is so much more than I have told you about here! But if I did, this post would be sooooo much longer.

I have other posts that I have written which will tell you about other days we have spent here. They are here, here, and here.

The best bits…

The animals, play areas, space.

Plenty of room for picnics.

Lots to do inside if it rains – still a great day out.

You can visit again for half price within 7 days – and you’ll need to!

Not so good…

Huge queues in high season, yes, other places do too, but we felt there were not enough staff. Most were young people too who are usually on a ‘go slow!’

Thank you Folly Farm and Zoo for another fantastic day!
