Top Toddler Car Travel Tips

I am travelling this weekend, I will be in the car at least 5 hours. Now, I don’t sleep in the day as much as I used to, and although I am sure I will fall asleep at some point, I will also be wide awake for a lot of it too!

Mummy, these will help me be happy in the car. Happy me = Happy you!

Please Mummy, have a supply of my favourite snacks, and some little treats too!

Some colouring stuff would be great – but not a book or paper that is too big for me in my car seat. I get cross when it falls off my knee! A tray or box lid will keep my crayons for falling on the floor.

My iPad, loaded with some good apps – but NOT Jelly Jump like my brother put on it – I am too little to do it, and I get really frustrated with it.

A basket or tub with my favourite small toys in.

Stickers, maybe some new bits and bobs.

My comforters – ie my sheety and my dummy.

Things you MUST have for a smooth mess-free journey are a pack of baby wipes and nappy bags – for putting used wipes, fruit peel etc in.

Mummy has been shopping and found some fabby things for me for the car. They were all just £1 each!

A baking tray – a small one perfect for my knee!

Magnetic letters and numbers – they are chunky and brightly coloured and they stay on the tray!

Pack of chunky crayons – skinny ones snap and get me very cross!

Plain small colouring pad – it fits in my tray.

Lots of stickers – with a sticker book if possible – it has shiny pages.

So, I am all set for my road trip – what tips do you have?

  1. The baking tray and letters are a brilliant idea! Hope you enjoy wherever your off to 🙂 we’re on a longish car journey tomorrow, it’s my first time going just me and Osian, so I hope he’s okay without someone to be able to entertain him in the back xx

  2. We have just come back from doing a 5 hour trip. We bought most of these items too!! I love the tray idea though, i will be copying you..ingenious!! Thank you #binkylinky

  6. We just took a 4-hour out, then 4-hour back trip with Hectic Grandson. He’s all of 13 months old, so we really struggled with how to keep him occupied. We were fortunate that he slept for 3 of the 4 hours on the way out. I’m not sure what we did right…he should have been awake the entire time.

I love your list. I’ve been working on checklists for trips with him, since it’s been 12 years since we had a toddler in the house. What a great list, although as an American I’ll admit to having to look up some of the meanings of words LOL

    Make it a great day!
