Pickle says….I love all things Disney – including Princesses. I recently saw Beauty and The Beast, and my favourite is Belle. The Beast was a little scary but I thought Belle was beautiful. I am going to Disneyland Paris soon and Mummy thought it would be fun to share with you some DIY Princess theme bedroom ideas.
Mummy says… If you’re looking to create a princess themed room for your little one, take a look at these tips on how to work some DIY magic to transform their bedroom into a space fit for a princess.
Transform the bed
One of the easiest ways to add some royal flair to your child’s room is by starting with the bed, and there are some great DIY options to achieve this look. Start with the bed itself and purchase a small double divan bed with mattress included if their current bed could use an update – comfort is key to a happy princess! Once you have the bed ready, go to a fabric shop and hunt down the perfect material to create their very own canopy bed. Materials like chiffon are usually best for this as they’re like and airy and come in a range of pretty shades. Another option is to simply drape some fabric behind the bed to create a beautiful wall hanging, and put up a set of fairy lights for some extra magic.
Decorate the walls
Grab a paintbrush and a palette of pinks and purples, and you can transform your child’s room into a palace in no time. There are lots of ways to go with this, from just painting a feature wall in a bright colour, to creating stencils of castles, crowns and other details.
Once the colour and design of your walls is sorted, you could decorate the space even further with some framed images such as drawings, princess themed prints or stills from Disney films.
Add some regal furnishings
Finding some extravagant and beautiful furnishings is key to giving your little one’s room the royal treatment, but you don’t have to spend a fortune in the process. Search through second hand shops and car boot sales for any gems that have a vintage feel and that can be upcycled to look good as new. Examples of this could be a wooden dressing table that can be transformed with a lick of white paint and some glittery details, or a chair that can be re-upholstered with a new fabric of your choice.
Create the finishing touches
Once the majority of the room is transformed, bring the theme together with some pretty finishing touches. For a light shade, stick to the crafty theme with a DIY feather pendant or simply re-paint a plain light shade with princess themed details. You could also use up any leftover fabric from the DIY canopy to create some curtains for the room, and find some accessories such as clocks and mirrors that fit the theme!
