Last month we had our first camping holiday at the fantastic Kingsbury Water Park Camping and Caravanning Club Site in the West Midlands.
I was very excited – I had never been camping before – well none of us had, although Mummy used to have a touring caravan with Daddy and the others had been away in that. Mummy was a member of the other caravan club then, and had never stayed on a camping and caravanning club site before, so she was very excited to see what the site would be like.
We had an absolutely awful journey on the Friday – it took almost 8 hours to get there (it is usually under 4 hours), with huge traffic jams at all the main motorway junctions, and the M42 took us at least twenty minutes from one junction to the next. I was a really good boy and only got a bit grumpy at the end of the journey.
The site was easy to find, not far at all off Junction 9 of the M42.
Luckily, our tent and beds were already up waiting for us.
The site is large, flat spacious and really well kept. As we arrived late, in the pouring rain, we literally unpacked what we needed and got ready for bed.
There is a fantastic family room on the site, with shower, sink, baby changing and loo all in one large room. We all got changed and ready in here.
We didn’t sleep very well – well I did once I got to sleep, but Mummy was very cold, and the rain was quite heavy. Thank goodness we woke up on Saturday to sunshine – yay! We were heading to the brilliant Conkers in the middle of The National Forest which was about half an hour away. When we got back to the campsite Nana and Grandad had arrived in their caravan – we were so pleased to see them! They were very impressed with the site – and they have stayed on hundreds of sites all over the UK.
We had tea with them, had a warm up, then headed back to the tent for the night. It was a bit warmer – I loved it, and we all slept a bit better. The rain came again in the night and when we woke on Sunday it was torrential. We dashed to Nana’s caravan to get ready, before leaving to meet Mummy’s bestest blogging friend Zena from Zena’s Suitcase and her family at Drayton Manor. The rain was bouncing down!
Drayton Manor is literally ten minutes down the road, so easy and quick to get to.
We arrived back at the campsite and thank goodness could dry off and warm up in Nana’s caravan!
Monday was dry – ish but grey and cloudy and cold! It was Grandad’s birthday and we went to a fantastic shopping place nearby, before having a meal at a Beefeater to celebrate.
We walked around the site when we got back, for Mummy to take photos. We found a lovely park – it was a shame I couldn’t go on it earlier because it was so wet.
The rain came back, and we had another wet night. We packed up Tuesday – in the rain – and headed home, as did Nana and Grandad.
It is a shame that the weather was so bad for us – the site is really so lovely. We would love to stay there again in the sunshine, and Nana and Grandad are definitely going to take their caravan back for a longer holiday. We would also love to have explored The Water Park right next door which had lots of activities, but it was too wet. You can walk along the tow path by the canal to a traditional pub too, but we were advised against it with a pushchair because it was too muddy.
