Mummy says… It is tough being a teenager these days. There is so much pressure on them from so many sources and it can seem overwhelming and almost too much for them to bear. Having two teens of my own – a boy and a girl, and a 22 year old daughter as well as Ickle Pickle, I have had a fair bit of experience in teen mental health….
Before I fell pregnant with Pickle I trained to be a counsellor and one area which really interested me was teen mental health. I wanted to further my training and become a young persons counsellor in a school or college, but put all my plans on hold when I became pregnant.
My teens have each suffered mental health issues including anxiety, depression and a condition called Globus Pharyngeus which is a result of severe anxiety. We have sought help and support through various channels including school, college and our GP. We have accessed counselling and support which has been hugely beneficial.
I wanted to share with you 5 resources I have come across for teen mental health in the hope that they may help you and your teens if they are suffering.
It is so common – every day there is another article to read sharing worrying statistics about the rise in mental health problems with our teens. More and more is being done to help them, and more and more people are talking about it, but it is important that this carries on – and becomes commonplace and part of our every day discussions.

- Get Self Help – CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) self help and therapy resources
- Meic Cymru – a helpline service for children and young people up to the age of 25 in Wales.
