Mummy says… I have worked for myself almost all of my adult life, having one business or another. I absolutely love reading about inspirational women who have their own business or story to tell….
I particularly love hearing about women who started their business when they were young, and as my 18 year old daughter, Lea has a very small jewellery business, we found the story of Origami Owl and the Co-Founder, Bella fascinating and truly inspirational.
Bella was just 14 and dreamt of having her own car by the time she was 16. With $350 and her family’s support, Bella started selling Living Lockets® to friends and family after school.
Living Lockets® are completely personal lockets, chosen by you, as a keepsake and reminder of a special occasion.
Chrissy Weems is Bella’s mother, Co-Founder and CEO of Origami Owl and the driving force behind the company’s energetic, heart-filled brand and ethos. She has been married for more than 25 years to her husband, Warren, and is the mother of five children.
“Tell your story with a meaningful, customisable Living Locket. Choose the Charms that represent your passions, memories, dreams and the things you love and capture them in your Living Locket.”
You choose the charms you would like to include, the locket, the chain, and any wording you would like engraved. You can also choose any matching accessories such as earrings.
The business took off, growing and growing, and now thousands of Independent Designers work with Origami Owl showcasing their products to the public.
Bella DID achieve her goal and her my dream car. She now helps others realise their dreams through her business.
From Origami Owl came the Live Sparkly website – a place sharing inspirational stories of joy, memorable moments, love, laughter and overcoming adversity. There are dozens of stories of Origami Owl designers and how this business has literally transformed their lives. I always find stories like this so uplifting and really motivating to me. I particularly like the story about Paula Beauchesne and how she was inspired to set up her business with her 12 year old daughter Erin. Origami Owl has a program for youth to work alongside a Designer parent – how awesome is that? This has helped Erin overcome her shyness and given her confidence.
“Paula and Erin have inspired others to start their own mother and daughter (and mother and son) businesses, with other Designer-and-Owlette teams now on their Origami Owl team. As Senior Team Leaders, Paula said, “I like seeing the changes that Origami Owl can make for mothers and their kids. I like giving them the opportunity to do the different things they can through Origami Owl, to make a difference for their families, to be able to travel and make money.”
Origami Owl’s mission statement says it all:
‘Our mission is to be a force for good’
‘TO LOVE + INSPIRE + MOTIVATE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES TO REACH THEIR DREAMS AND EMPOWER THEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS’
Origami Owl currently operate throughout the US and Canada and I am hoping they will branch out to the UK soon.
