Mummy says… I am very excited to have teamed up with eBay and Mumsnet to share with you just how easy it is sell your unwanted stuff via eBay. I am saving for a very special holiday and decided to find and sell items from my home to start my savings fund.

Saving for a Holiday with eBay and Mumsnet

I chose an unused VR (Virtual Reality) Headset and an unread, new paperback book.

I decided to sell via the eBay app. I have an existing account but haven’t sold anything for years!

The app is super easy to use. I love how I could scan a barcode on the item I was selling (a book) and it loaded all the information about it on to the listing. What a brilliant timesaver.

I could choose to sell it as  a ‘Buy It Now’ or as an ‘Auction’ listing. I chose Buy It Now for the book and Auction for the VR Headset.

I love how eBay works out Royal Mail Postage options and the size / type of postage. I could customise this too If I wanted to change the calculations.

I listed my items by taking photos of them in seconds on my iPhone and uploading them to the app.

eBay suggested to me the price the book should fetch based on the last 90 days and I decided to pop it in a Buy it Now listing for £2.99 plus postage.

The VR Headset Auction was for 10 days starting at £3.42 plus postage. Again, this was following the suggestion of price from eBay. If it is unsold, I can relist it again.

Unfortunately my items haven’t sold yet, but that hasn’t put me off at all. I have relisted the VR Headset which was as simple as a couple of clicks in the app, and the book still has a week or so left to sell. I have found the time to sort out some of Pickle’s baby clothes and toys and will be listing them very soon.

If I do have any questions, eBay Live Help is available to help me.

I found selling via eBay so easy and quick via the app – I can also add listings via the main website on my laptop if I want to.

All in all, selling via eBay is so simple, and I can keep track of my items on the phone app. If you have anything to sell, why not start with eBay!

Have you ever sold anything via eBay?

  1. Ebay is great for selling unwanted stuff, my daughter was fund raising for vision aid last year so we asked all our family and friends for their unwanted goods and gifts and sold them on ebay to raise the funds.

  2. I must be one of the only people to have never used eBay
    Thanks for the info
    Gotta start soon!

  3. I am SO in need of selling a bunch of stuff online and this actually sounds easier than expected, especially that it tells you what it is likely to cost to post etc!

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Love the sound of the app. There was no ebay when we lived in Denmark, and in Bavaria it’s quite hard listing an item when German isn’t your first language, but now we are back, I plan on getting back on the ebay wagon! :)

  8. Sounds easy enough to do. I have thought about selling some of my dresses on ebay but never gotten round to photographing them.

  9. I’ve sold lots on eBay. It’s handy for the run up to Christmas

  10. You have inspired me to have a clear out and sell my preloved items on ebay!

  11. I used to sell alot on Ebay a few years ago. I loved it. I still sell bits and bobs. It’s very useful for getting rid of stuff you don’t want. I only sell stuff that is worth it though. More expensive items. Cheap and cheerful clothing I dont want anymore I send to the charity shop as it is just not worth the aggro. I have had a few problems with buyers on EBay however that is not Ebay’s fault. They are helpful with sorting problems out. I love Ebay as I can buy most of the things I want from one website, put on watch list and so on to go back too.

  12. I’ve been using Ebay to sell & buy items for many years. The auctions can be quite exciting & profitable. For example, I listed a box (it looked like a lunchbox) that my husband had received as a free gift when he bought a PS3 game. He said it was pointless and nobody would be interested, but I still went ahead and listed the item. The initial price I asked for was less than £1 but at the end the box sold for £20 pounds!!! :-) I highly recommend using Ebay, especially as it also gives you the chance to buy brands/items that you can’t find in your town/city or even in the UK.

  13. Love using ebay x

  14. I love having a good clear out, it’s a great way to make money from things you have forgotten about. I like a good old fashioned bootsale too, less hassle with posting.
