So, this week was all about our first holiday to France. We were staying at the fantastic La Croix du Vieux Pont Campsite, Berny-Rivière, Paris as guests of Eurocamp, and had the beautiful Peugeot 3008 to take us, thanks to Peugeot UK.
Saturday 28 May – We picked up Lea following her prom last night and drove to Ashford. It was a long journey, but the weather was ok. We stopped at Sarn Park for the loo and a drink. This is me there – very excited! The car was brilliant, it gave Mummy the perfect chance to get used to it, and she loved it! We arrived at the Travelodge in Ashford at 7pm ish.
Sunday 29 May – We had to get up at 4am to catch the ferry from Dover to Calais. We grabbed a drive through breakfast from the Macdonalds next door and drove to Dover. We arrived early, so were able to get on the ferry an hour earlier. 6.40am instead of 7.35am. We were very excited, we sailed with P&O Ferries.
Mummy drove us to the campsite, which was about two hours away. Mummy was a bit nervous about driving in France, she has never done it before. Everything was well signed the minute we got off the ferry and Mummy found it easy. It was mixed weather, but was raining when we arrived in Calais. We stopped at some amazing services on the A26 and it brightened a little when we arrived at the site, but then started to rain. We had a quick explore of our mobile home, and to the shop.
Monday 30 May – Woke to rain, but very excitedly set off for Disney Land Paris. It was about an hour and a half drive way. Lea was the navigator and we got there perfectly. We arrived at 12 noon and parked at Disney Village. The rain was torrential, and was the same all day. It was a shame, but we still had a great day. You can read all about our day in our Disney Land post coming up. Mummy had booked a cute little B&B nearby for the night to save us driving back to the site. It was lovely – nice and warm and comfy with great free WiFi!
Tuesday 31 May – Woke to rain again, after a lovely continental breakfast we headed back to Disney Land Paris. There was a ticket problem which caused us a delay in getting in, but a manager at Disney Land was brilliant and it was soon sorted. I met Spider Man -the highlight of my holiday. We had a fab lunch at Planet Hollywood then Lea and Luke went on Crush the Coaster. We stayed to watch the Disney Dreams Light Show at 11pm then headed back to the campsite. Mummy drove!
Wednesday 1 June – More rain. We just chilled at camp site, and walked into the small town for the market. Found The Tabac, a fab little coffee shop for Mummy – with cheap ice lollies too! We also found the town supermarket which was great.
Thursday 2 June – Rain again. We decided to visit Chateau Pierrefonds where the TV series Merlin was filmed. It was amazing – awesome. We had snacks and drinks in a restaurant in the village. There were very slight drier breaks in the rain. Mummy explored the campsite with Lea whilst Luke and I stayed in the mobile home.
Friday 3 June – Our last full day. We chilled at site, and explored some more. In the rain. Luke and I went into one of the three pools on the site. We had lunch in the Macao Beach Bar which was a cool bar on the edge of the manmade beach, it is such a shame that we had no sunshine to enjoy the beach!
Saturday – 4 June. We packed up, cleared up and headed off for Calais at 10.30am. Our ferry was 3.40pm we had a good drive, stopping at some services (not as nice as the ones on the way). Again, the port was clearly marked although there were far bigger queues this time. We got pulled over at the port and a security man checked our boot (which was a large one!) Poor man, it was rammed with all our stuff! Mummy tried to join the wrong lane for the ferry and was stuck across the road, getting beeped at by a huge lorry! We soon moved to the right lane! Plain sailing (literally) brought us back to Dover and the UK. I made a little friend on the crossing and played the whole time. The ferry journey both ways was faultless, we found comfy seats, there was a Starbucks (Mummy was VERY happy!) a great shop, and restaurants if you wanted a proper meal. The crossing was about an hour and a half. Driving on and off was easy, and we found our car both times with no problems.
We drove to Newbury – after stopping at the McDonalds in Ashford for tea. It was warm and sunny! For the first time in a week! We stayed at a Travelodge at Chievely services which was great. We all slept well and were ready on the Sunday morning to drive home. In the warm sunshine.
This is just a snapshot of our holiday, we wanted to share with you our Photo a Day in France, and hope you enjoyed it!
