I drink only water and milk. Mummy and the others drink quite a lot of other drinks, but they do need to drink more water. Mummy is always on the look out for more ways to make water more interesting, and was very excited to learn about some great recipes from Robinsons to use their delicious squash to bring water alive. Over to Mummy…
Pickle does drink vast amounts of water, but he is the only one in our family who does! I am fully aware that my older children and I should drink a lot more water, but, we find it a bit, well, boring if I am honest.
I didn’t really think about the fact that it is just as important to drink water in the winter, as it is in the summer. It is easy to forget though, with darker days, early nights and cold weather.
53% of people admitted to not realising the importance of drinking water during the winter and 62% say they drink more hot drinks at this time* – I know that I do.
Well, I decided to have the best of both worlds, and make a yummy mulled apple and blackcurrant drink with a recipe from Robinsons.
Robinsons gave their squashes a refreshing new recipe and taste this year, all have no added sugar. There are eleven delicious flavours available.
Mulled Apple and Blackcurrant
You will need:
200ml Robinsons Apple and Blackcurrant squash
800ml water
Mulled spice sachet (allspice, dried orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) OR
4 cloves, 4 black peppercorns, 2 star anise, 1/2 tsp ground allspice, cinnamon sticks.
Dilute the squash with the water.
Gently warm in a pan on the hob with the spices.
Simmer for 3 minutes then leave to infuse for 3 minutes.
Serve in a glass or mug.
The house smelt amazing whilst the drink was simmering, and it tasted so delicious. I wasn’t sure if it would be as yummy as mulled wine, but it was, in fact it was better! It was so warming and festive, and I was glad I chose the mulled spices sachet because it meant no ‘bits’ in the drink – the children loved it too.
I thoroughly recommend this drink for this winter – absolutely perfect for everyone, especially children and the drivers!

I am so into everything mulled at the moment so I am going to have to try this. Drinking water can be a tough task during the winter as all I want is a hot drink x

You can’t beat hot blackcurrant in winter! We’re squash fanatics in this house anyway but warmed in winter is a proper treat!

I’m terrible for not drinking enough. The mulled squash sounds delicious and much better than my usual mulled wine which would just leave me dehydrated!

Oh I used to love warm ribena. I wonder if mulled squash would be a suitable replacement for the winter.

I never would have thought to use mulled sachets with anything apart from wine which is why I have never had a mulled wine, red wine isn’t my drink of choice. This sounds a great way for me to have a Christmasy drink x

I really should drink more water, but I not only find it a bit boring, but because it’s what I drink when I am ill, drinking it reminds me of feeling ill!
I do really love the sound of this drink!
